Blues Matters Magazine, BritainThis four piece USA band from Oregon delivers a high energy "swing" style blues and create some real foot tapping sounds. I believe the band name first originated from lyrics of a T-Bone Walker tune. The line up is: Papa (Guitar and Vocals), Kevin LaBaron (Saxophone), Julian Brogi (Drums) and Jim Soberg (Upright Bass), their influences are drawn from artists of another era, like Big Joe Turner, T-Bone Walker and Louis Jordan.
This is an entertaining and enjoyable CD, while most tracks are upbeat the pick of the songs for me is the slow blues Mermaid Mama, self written by Papa (Tim McAllister).
With a band of this nature the focus is on the guitar and saxophone, here both instruments interplay well and Papa is a very talented guitarist, although very restrained, except on "How Blue Can You Get" when he does let rip!
This is a very polished release... Music that will get people up and dancing.
