A charismatic jump blues outfit (guitar, sax, doghouse bass, drums) from Portland, Oregon, Papa Salty submits impressively confident and personality-laden vocals and guitar from frontman Salty (presumably Tim McAllister), with Kevin LaBaron's sax providing capable, essential counterpoint.

A few covers, including those popularized by the Five Royales and James Brown ("Think"), Howlin' Wolf ("300 Pounds of Joy"), Johnny "Guitar" Watson ("Those Lonely, Lonely Nights"), B.B. King ("How Blue Can You Get"), and Kim Wilson ("Don't Bite The Hand That Feeds You") stud the playlist.

Otherwise, Swing It Big! (BluesKing 0501) sensibly concentrates on McAllister's self penned songs, such as the Freddie Kingesque "Burnside Boogie," the Louis Prima-ready "I Quit," his Latin-themed "Take Your Trouble," and the roots-rocking "I'm in Love With You." Watch this outfit.
