Ik zou er mij gemakkelijk vanaf kunnen maken met te zeggen dat de cd-titel perfect de sfeer en de muziek op deze cd weergeeft. Voilą, bespreking afgewerkt.
Whoops! Sorry, but thats a little hard for me to read. We got this review sent to us in Dutch, and since none of us speak the language, nothing we could do but turn to the trusty internet for a language convertor. We used Babelfish, and what you see below is what we got. It's a little tough to read the translation, but its pretty easy to see how much the reviewer loved the CD. here we go!
I can easily say the CD title reflects perfectly the environment and the music on this cd. Voilą, discussion finished.
With that one will not Tim McAllister however happy to be, fears I. He comes from Portland, Oregon, and is the bezieler of the blues - and swingband Papa Salty. McAllister aka Papa take the songs and the guitar and parties to the hilt. The remaining members are at present Kevin LaBaron on saxophone, Julian Borgi on drums and Jim Solberg on standing bass. Dan Davis has replaced Solberg on bass. These men get during live actions regular strengthening of guest musicians among which a lot fumaroles and some ounce not whole unknown musicians such as Junior Watson, Paul deLay and Kenny 'Blue' Ray.
Their music is a mix of West Coast swing, 50's tinted r&b, a firm shot of retro r&b from New Orleans with a head role for the sax and what swinging Texas blues ala T-Bone Walker and Pee Wee Crayton. Title song and opener Swing It Big! has beside Riot in Cell Block No. 9 and Jailhouse Rock lain. What follows is a brilliant jump blues version of Willie Dixons Three Hundred Pounds of Joy. In Love With You leaves me shocked further. The little matter swings. There are beautiful versions of B.B. King's How Blue Can You Get, and Lonely Lonely Nights. Other covers are of more recent signature: Take Your hands Out of My Pockets of Junior Watson and Don't Bite The Hand of Kim Wilson.
Within Tims own composities also sit some pearls. Listen to I Quit, Burnside Boogie, Yackity Yack or Mermaid Mama. My favorite song I Quit opens with a Bo Diddley beat then bursts into a firmly swinging tune in which the bass, guitar and sax each claim a prominent role. Tim McAllister appears also a splendid voice to have, extremely suited for r&b. In among other things Somebody Tell me and How Blue Can You Get let me hear to what he is vocal able. I have an extremely aroused curiosity as to what these boys can do on stage. Who is going to bring them to Europe?

Daar zou ene Tim McAllister echter niet gelukkig mee zijn, vrees ik. Hij is afkomstig uit Portland, Oregon, en is de bezieler van de blues- en swingband Papa Salty. Tim McAllister aka Papa neemt de zang en de gitaarpartijen voor zijn rekening. De overige bandleden zijn momenteel Kevin LaBaron op saxofoon, Julian Borgi op drums en Jim Solberg op staande bas. Die laatste blijkt echter onlangs alweer vervangen te zijn door Dan Davis. Deze mannen krijgen tijdens live optredens geregeld versterking van gastmuzikanten waaronder heel wat blazers en enkele ons niet geheel onbekende muzikanten zoals Junior Watson, Paul deLay en Kenny 'Blue' Ray . Tussen Tims eigen composities zitten echter ook enkele pareltjes. Luister maar naar I Quit, Burnside Boogie, Yackity Yack of Mermaid Mama. Mijn favoriete song I Quit opent met een Bo Diddley beat om vervolgens los te barsten in een stevig swingende bluesrocker waarin de bas, gitaar en sax elk een prominente rol opeisen. Tim McAllister blijkt eveneens over een prachtige stem te beschikken, uitermate geschikt voor de betere r&b. In o.a. Somebody Tell Me en How Blue Can You Get laat hij horen tot wat hij vocaal in staat is. Ik ben uitermate benieuwd wat deze jongens er op een podium van terechtbrengen. Wie haalt deze band naar Europa?
